Sodium Alpha Olefin Sulfonate (AOS-40) is a 40% active solution of sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate — a high-foaming, mild anionic surfactant perfect for sulfate-free shampoos, body washes, and cleansers. Made primarily from coconut sources, this ingredient offers excellent flash foam, good emulsification, and gentle cleansing for skin and hair.
It’s also biodegradable, stable across a wide pH range, and works well even in acidic formulas containing AHAs or salicylic acid. AOS-40 is commonly used in personal care and household products, including liquid soaps, bubble baths, facial cleansers, and even car wash formulations.
