Ritamulse SCG: Natural Emulsifier for Eco-Friendly Skincare
Ritamulse SCG is a plant-derived, ECOCERT-certified emulsifier, perfect for creating luxurious oil-in-water emulsions in organic and eco-conscious skincare formulations. Composed of Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, and Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, it provides formulators with a versatile tool for developing stable, moisturizing products with a soft, powdery feel. Known for its stability and natural composition, it is widely used in lotions, creams, and other moisturizing applications.
Key Features & Benefits
- Natural, Eco-Friendly: ECOCERT-certified, 100% vegan, and sourced from renewable plant materials, making it ideal for green formulations.
- Emulsification Power: Efficiently emulsifies up to 25% oils in an oil-in-water emulsion while creating a stable formulation with a rich, creamy texture.
- Moisture Retention: Enhances the ability of skin to retain moisture, providing long-lasting hydration, even in low humidity conditions.
- Soft, Powdery Finish: Unlike many emulsifiers, Ritamulse SCG provides a smooth, talc-like skin feel, reducing greasiness and adding a velvety finish to creams and lotions.
- Temperature Stability: Requires heating to a higher melting point (~81.1°C), ensuring thorough blending and consistent results across batches.
Formulation Advantages
Ritamulse SCG is developed using RITA Corporation’s patented Lindex™ System, making the incorporation of acyl lactylates into emulsions straightforward. This emulsifier works best at pH levels of 5-7.5 and supports the formulation of high-quality, stable emulsions for both skincare and haircare products. However, it does not perform well with highly acidic or cationic ingredients, such as AHAs or conditioning agents like BTMS-50.

Recommended Usage: Ranging from 2-10%
Formulation Guidelines
- Usage Rate: Recommended between 2% to 10% depending on the formulation, though most stable recipes use around 8%. Capable of emulsifying up to 25% oil in formulations.
- Heated Oil Phase: Incorporate into the heated oil phase, ensuring that the temperature is above 81°C to prevent graininess or crystallization.
- Phase Integration: For best results, combine the water phase into the oil phase slowly, mixing until the emulsion reaches 30°C.
- Cooling Phase: Add cool-down phase ingredients at 40°C to avoid separation.
Applications
- Lotions and Creams: Adds rich texture and stability to skin hydration products.
- Cleansing Balms: Creates self-emulsifying products that turn milky on contact with water for gentle cleansing.
- Lip Balms and Sticks: Adds stability and smooth application properties.
- Scrubs and Bath Oils: Helps create emulsified formulations for rinse-off body care products.
Important Notes
- Incompatibility: Avoid using cationic ingredients (e.g., BTMS-50, cetrimonium chloride) as they can cause separation. Likewise, highly acidic ingredients such as AHAs can destabilize emulsions made with Ritamulse SCG.
- Thickening: Emulsions created with Ritamulse SCG tend to have a thicker texture compared to those made with traditional emulsifiers like Polawax.
- Temperature Sensitivity: Proper melting is crucial to prevent issues like graininess or separation in the final product. Always monitor your formulation temperature with a thermometer.
Storage & Shelf Life
Store Ritamulse SCG in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. When properly stored, it has a shelf life of up to 2 years.
