Leucidal® SF Max – Natural Antimicrobial & Preservative
Leucidal® SF Max is a probiotic-based natural antimicrobial derived from the fermentation of Lactobacillus. It provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection while offering skin-conditioning benefits, making it a multi-functional alternative to synthetic preservatives like parabens, phenoxyethanol, and formaldehyde donors.
This ingredient is created through an optimized fermentation process that enhances the production of bacteriocins—natural antimicrobial peptides that help protect against bacteria and fungi.
Key Features & Benefits
- Naturally derived and ECOCERT-approved for organic formulations
- Provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection
- Functions as both a preservative and a skin-conditioning agent
- Water-soluble and easy to incorporate into formulations
- Whole Foods Acceptable Premium Preservative List compliant
- GMO-free, salicylate-free, and vegan-friendly
How It Works
Lactobacillus, commonly used in fermented foods like kimchi and sauerkraut, produces bacteriocins, which help inhibit unwanted microbial growth. During manufacturing, lysozyme is added to break down cell walls and maximize the release of antimicrobial peptides. This enhances the effectiveness of Leucidal® SF Max in controlling bacteria and fungi.
Recommended Uses
Leucidal® SF Max can be used in a wide range of personal care products, including:
- Skincare – creams, lotions, serums, gels, toners
- Haircare – shampoos, conditioners, leave-in treatments
- Body care – deodorants, body washes, hand sanitizers
- Water-based formulations – mists, emulsions, sprays
Recommended Usage & Formulation Guidelines
- Usage rate: 2.0% – 4.0%
- pH stability: Best performance in formulations with a pH between 3 and 8 (optimum below 6)
- Solubility: Water-soluble, mix well before use
- Temperature stability: Add during the cool-down phase at temperatures below 70°C (158°F). For best results, allow further cooling and incorporate when the formula is below 40°C (104°F) to prevent destabilization.
